Deep Tissue Massage

Deep Tissue Massage Bristol

Deep Tissue Massage is aimed at the deeper tissue structures of the muscle and fascia, also called connective tissue.  DTM uses many of the same movements and techniques as Swedish massage, but the pressure will generally be more intense.

It is also a more focused massage, to release chronic muscle tension or knots.  This means it can be a little more uncomfortable than Swedish massage.  You should always feel free to speak up if the pressure is too much for you.

It is important to drink lots of water after a DTM to help flush lactic acid out of the tissues, this prevents soreness the next day.

How many DTM sessions will I need?

I am often asked how many sessions will I need?  It really depends on the individual and how long a condition existed.  Obviously, a short episode of muscle pain will generally take fewer sessions.

It is important to be realistic about the results just one DTM session will achieve as chronic knots and tension, built up over a lifetime will not be eliminated in one session.  It is best achieved with an integrated programme that includes exercise, work on your posture, relaxation techniques and a regular programme of massage.

Trigger Point Therapy

Trigger Point Therapy is incorporated into treatments with the aim of relieving pain and treating muscle spasms caused by injury, overuse and exertion. Pain is felt due to some inflammation, consequently the muscle tightens on healing and muscle then thickens, which impinge nerves. TPs are believed to be the starting point of this pain.

TP Therapy restores muscle condition to its normal resting tone by simply applying pressure to points on the muscles.
